UTS Building 8
(Project, UTS:Insearch, 2016)
Iteration 1 (Top Left)
Taking the idea of an isolated gaming location for an individual, I expanded it to allow for a social gaming situation. Each section of wall disconnects each seating area from one another while still having them all connected to the same space. This layout is extremely unappealing as it has a very uncomfortable layout for a user to travel through the space and it is too open, not allowing the user to relax in this recreational space.
Iteration 2 (Top Right)
To create a more enclosed environment for the user while they relax, I replaced the straight walls with circular pods. These pods allow the user to sit by themselves or with others in relative privacy. Adding these pods provided a little more privacy to the user however the circular shape would not give the user a clear boundary or feeling of seclusion, the open spaces allowing any passerby to walk directly through at any time. The natural lighting in these pods would also be limited, meaning they would have to be lit up by bright electric lights to compensate for this.
Iteration 3 (Bottom Left)
To expand on the idea of seclusion I changed the circular shapes to right angles. These angled sections provide the user with a corner to sit in while also being in the centre of the room, allowing them to feel comfortable while the space is still open. These angles are not placed in the absolute best positions and could be tweaked to allow for a more interesting experience for the user. The way light will be used in this space must be changed too as it still isn't going to be able to illuminate the whole area.
Iteration 4 (Below)
Entirely removing the video gaming to a more social corners theme, I have created my fourth and final iteration. The idea of social corners revolves around students going to this space with friends to relax, talk and pass the time. This iteration allows for light to be let in to every part of the room that will have students using it. Each corner has a window that allows for light to fill up the spaces and for students to feel as though they are within their own room while still being in an open area.
